We may end up with a slightly truncated meeting this month, but we have an outstanding presentation to experience. Dr. David Voran has agreed to follow up on the comments he made last month to describe the degree to which Apple Health has advanced to provide interoperability between their application and the health record of clients, thus allowing physicians the ability to access the activity reporting of patients and include it in the patient record. This represents a significant advancement, and Dr. Voran will be able to explain the degree to which he and his colleagues have been able to integrate this into their practice at University Health.

Dr. Voran is a long-time leader and advocate in health information technology and digital health. He is a family medicine specialist at University Health – Lakewood and Associate Professor, Community & Family Medicine University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine. He graduated from the University of Kansas School of Medicine. After completing the Family Medicine residency at KUMed, he joined the faculty of the Family Medicine Department. Two years later, he was appointed the Executive Director of Information Technology where he managed computing services, telecommunications, telemedicine, the mail room, and print shop.  He later joined Cerner Corporation as Chief Medical Information Officer for Health Midwest until that hospital network was acquired by HCA. He continued with Cerner as a Physician Executive and undertook several roles and projects including playing a key role in the design of the onsite Healthe Clinic. He left Cerner to help Heartland Health convert to a digital environment and to lead its Innovation Clinic in Platte City. He is an active member of the American Academy of Family Practice and was a member of the Academy’s ad hoc Committee on Electronic Medical Records. In addition to the AAFP, he is also active in a number of professional organizations and was the past president for the Heart of America chapter of HIMSS and has been a Medical Director for CVS Minute Clinics in the Kansas City area. He continues to provide medical content expertise to startup companies in the greater Kansas City area.
