Since 2017, Hire KC has been connecting college students to internships and work-based opportunities that both expand occupational identities and expose young people to new potential career pathways, and better prepare them for the jobs of tomorrow. KC Digital Drive adoped the Hire KC Micro-Internship Program in the summer of 2022 to boost the capacity of its nonprofit partners through subsized project-based work from local talent.
How it works:
Micro-Internships are paid, professional projects that give students a chance to explore a variety of career paths and industries through a short-term engagement, and provide the KC region’s nonprofits with a unique opportunity to build capacity and get items off the to-do list while assessing students’ skills and quality of work. The program prioritizes students and recent graduates from the regional community colleges, and 4-year regional higher education institutions. Most Micro-Internships range from 10 – 40 hours, and students earn $20/hour for their work, which is covered by Hire KC through funding from Bank of America.
