Digital Scene KC: Print to Digital Happy Hour at Andrews McMeel Universal

Thursday, July 11, 2024, from 5- 6:30 p.m. — KC Digital Drive partnered with KC Imagine to host the DIGITAL SCENE KC: Print to Digital. The event provided a unique opportunity for digital media professionals to connect and network with guest exhibitors from host, Andrews McMeel Universal (AMU), over drinks and a light meal.

AMU is a print and digital trailblazer in publishing, syndication, entertainment, and interactive experiences with a world-class roster of diverse and creative talent. AMU’s experts shared their personal expertise about their work in the print and digital domains and how they improve the digital community locally in Kansas City.

Held in AMU’s iconic lobby, the event opened with Kirsty Melville, President and CEO at Andrews McMeel Universal, narrating the publisher’s experience with the “print to digital dance” and highlighting their commitment to continue to create these “universal connections” in all mediums. Highlighting the consistency of transformation in the age of AI, Kristy spoke of the return back to print, which she sees as alive and well despite the rise of digital media. In closing, she invited attendees to visit their expansive lobby history wall–a museum-quality tribute paying homage to the organization’s transformations and long history with print and digital publishing. This invite proved to be a unique opportunity to discover the ever-evolving world of AMU in an interactive experience–appropriately combining print and digital forms.

From the first comics or children’s books captivating audiences worldwide, to AMU’s latest foray into digital games with the Puzzle Society, this retrospective offered an insider’s view of the company’s product development over the years. Overall, this Digital Scene KC event was an excellent networking opportunity for any digital media professional and an inspirational evening.

The next event, DIGITAL SCENE KC: Game Development, will be held on Thursday, September 12, from 5-6:30 p.m. at FlipSwitch VR. Registration for this event can be found here.
