In this month’s meeting we will hear from two provider organizations about programs leveraging digital health approaches.
First, we will hear from Eve-Lynn Nelson and Robert Stiles of the University of Kansas Medical Center who will give us a view into ongoing developments in telehealth within their organization.
Eve-Lynn Nelson, Ph.D., is a long-time practitioner and leader in telehealth and is currently Professor, Pediatrics – Behavioral, and Director, Department of Research and Scholarship, Institute of Community Engagement. Robert Stiles, MPH, is currently Program Manager in the Department of Pediatrics and his past leadership roles include Primary Care Director, Kansas Department of Health and Environment, Director, Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas, and CEO of Central Ozarks Medical Center.
Next, we will hear about how Excelsior Springs Hospital and Clinics went from making sure that all affiliated practitioners were using the electronic medical record to doing telehealth visits and virtual diagnostics across a wide region – all in less than a year’s time. They were able to take such a leap by virtue of winning one of the largest awards – $995,000 – in the Federal Communications Commission’s $200 million COVID-19 Telehealth Program in 2020. In terms of magnitude, this put them in league with the likes of the Mayo Clinic, Johns Hopkins, Northwestern Memorial, and Barnes Jewish.
Troy Grizzle, MBA, MS, led this whirlwind project and is Physician Practices Manager for Excelsior Springs. He will take us through their process for winning the grant, how they have executed, and the current roll-out of their programs.
